ACSR conductor chart to IS 398 (Part 2)
Every standard ACSR code in IS 398 (Part 2), from Mole to Morculla, with stranding, total area, overall diameter, mass, breaking load and DC resistance. Pick a code and a length to get the conductor weight for transport, stringing and drum planning.
Basis
IS 398 (Part 2), Aluminium conductors for overhead transmission purposes: aluminium conductors galvanised steel reinforced.
Reference values for planning and comparison. Confirm against the current standard, the purchaser’s specification and the manufacturer’s datasheet before ordering.

Worked example: Conductor weight for a 10 km double-circuit line in Zebra
- Six phase conductors × 10 km = 60 km of conductor.
- ACSR Zebra weighs 1621 kg/km (IS 398 Part 2).
- 60 × 1621 = 97,260 kg, about 97.3 tonnes, before sag allowance and wastage.
What is the size of ACSR Dog conductor?
ACSR Dog is a 100 mm² nominal aluminium conductor with 6 aluminium wires of 4.72 mm over 7 steel wires of 1.57 mm, 14.15 mm overall diameter, about 394 kg/km and a DC resistance of 0.2792 Ω/km at 20 °C (IS 398 Part 2).
Which ACSR conductor is used for 33 kV and 66 kV lines?
Distribution utilities commonly specify Raccoon, Dog, Wolf or Panther depending on load and span, while Zebra and Moose are typical for 220 kV and 400 kV transmission. The utility’s technical specification decides the code.
What is the difference between ACSR Zebra and Moose?
Both are 54/7 constructions. Zebra (420 mm² nominal) uses 3.18 mm wires, 28.62 mm overall, 1621 kg/km; Moose (520 mm² nominal) uses 3.53 mm wires, 31.77 mm overall, 1998 kg/km, with lower resistance and higher breaking load.
