AAAC conductor chart to IS 398 (Part 4)
All aluminium alloy conductor (AAAC) codes in IS 398 (Part 4), including the uprated variants, with area, stranding, diameter, mass, breaking load and DC resistance. Select a code and length for the conductor weight.
Basis
IS 398 (Part 4), Aluminium conductors for overhead transmission purposes: aluminium alloy stranded conductors.
Reference values for planning and comparison. Confirm against the current standard, the purchaser’s specification and the manufacturer’s datasheet before ordering.

Worked example: Panther in AAAC instead of ACSR: what changes
- AAAC Panther: 232 mm², 636.7 kg/km, 68.05 kN, 0.1471 Ω/km.
- ACSR Panther: 974 kg/km, 89.7 kN, 0.139 Ω/km.
- The alloy conductor is 35 % lighter but has a lower breaking load, so sag and tension must be rechecked before substituting.
Is AAAC lighter than ACSR?
Yes, for a similar code. AAAC Panther (232 mm²) is about 637 kg/km against 974 kg/km for ACSR Panther, because AAAC has no steel core. ACSR usually has the higher breaking load.
What does “Up” mean in AAAC codes?
The uprated variants (for example Dog (Up), Wolf (Up), Panther (Up)) are larger-area AAAC constructions listed alongside the base codes, used where utilities want more current capacity on the same route.
What is the resistance of AAAC Zebra?
AAAC Zebra (465 mm², 37 wires of 4.00 mm) has a DC resistance of 0.0734 Ω/km at 20 °C under IS 398 (Part 4).
