kW, kVA, HP and amps converter
Convert between kW, kVA, horsepower and line current for three-phase or single-phase supplies at your voltage and power factor, with the reactive power alongside.
Basis
S = √3 × V × I (three-phase) or V × I (single-phase); P = S × cos φ; 1 HP = 0.746 kW.
Reference values for planning and comparison. Confirm against the current standard, the purchaser’s specification and the manufacturer’s datasheet before ordering.

Worked example: 250 kVA at 415 V, three-phase
- I = 250,000 ÷ (√3 × 415) = 347.8 A.
- At 0.8 power factor that is 200 kW and 150 kVAR.
- For kW to amps, divide kW by power factor first: 200 kW ÷ 0.8 = 250 kVA.
How many amps is 100 kW at 415 V?
At 0.85 power factor, 100 kW is about 117.6 kVA and draws roughly 164 A per phase on a 415 V three-phase supply.
How do I convert kVA to kW?
kW = kVA × power factor. 500 kVA at 0.8 power factor is 400 kW.
How many kW is 1 HP?
1 HP is 0.746 kW of output power. Motor input is higher by the motor’s efficiency.
