What to include in a cable enquiry
UD Fomra Group
A cable enquiry is easier to quote when it includes the approved cable description, quantity, delivery location and required date. If a detail is still being decided, say so. A clear open question is more useful than an assumption hidden in the price.
Start with the approved cable schedule
Send the latest BOQ or cable schedule, with its revision number. Keep the original item references so that the quotation can be checked against the same document.
For each item, include the voltage grade, conductor material, number of cores, conductor size, insulation and sheath requirements. Add the approved make and relevant project specification. Cable selection also depends on the installation conditions, so a size alone does not tell the whole story.
- The complete cable description from the approved schedule
- Quantity and unit for each item
- Required make, approvals and specification references
- Any installation or fire performance requirements stated by the project engineer
Separate total quantity from drum requirements
A total length and a drum schedule answer different questions. If your site needs particular continuous lengths, include them with the enquiry. If the drum schedule is not final, mark it as pending rather than allowing the total quantity to imply it.
The same applies to delivery. Tell us whether the material is needed together or in stages, and give the site location. A date without a delivery location leaves an important part of the enquiry unanswered.
Make quotation comparisons easier
Ask suppliers to quote against the same item references and identify any deviation clearly. Check the offered cable description, quantity, delivery basis and supporting documents together. The lowest number on a summary page is not enough to establish that two offers cover the same requirement.
Before placing an order, have the project engineer confirm the final technical selection. A procurement checklist helps organise the enquiry; it does not replace the approved design.
Send us the documents you have
Use the enquiry form to share your cable schedule and tell us which details need clarification. Attachments can total up to 3 MB across five files. For larger drawings, use the email link on the form and include your enquiry reference.
